« The moral economy of violence and the production of community in Bagong Silang»

Through
qualitative and quantitative data from the resettlement site Bagong
Silang to the North of Manila, this presentation will explore the
relationshipbetween violence and community. It argues for the need to
move beyond essentially totalizing concepts of community (e.g.pakikisama and pinagsamahan) and see how violence and contestation are constitutive elements in the production of community.
